BILD – Calgary Region donates $750,000, bringing the home building industry’s total contribution to an unprecedented $27 million to RESOLVE
From our 2016-2017 Report to Community.
BILD – Calgary Region joined RESOLVE’s home builders with a $750,000 gift in support of creating affordable and supported rental housing in our city. This brings the total contribution to RESOLVE from the home building industry to $27 million.
BILD’s gift will go towards Calgary Alpha House Society’s housing initiative for women experiencing addiction, homelessness and mental health challenges. Alpha House was able to secure financing to purchase a 24-unit building in summer 2017 thanks in part to BILD’s gift. Tenants will be moving into their new homes in the fall.
“The RESOLVE Campaign is an excellent fit for BILD because our members are passionate about building and developing our great city and region,” says Val Veldhuyzen, Director of Finance and Administration at BILD. “The Alpha House project appealed to us due to the number of shocking statistics for homeless people and, in particular, the female subset.”
BILD advocates for effective policy and regulation in Calgary’s building industry. The organization has 675 member companies, from home builders and renovators to trades and suppliers. BILD is the voice that encourages building a great Calgary, now and in the future.
It was 11 home builders — many of whom are BILD members — who kicked off the RESOLVE Campaign with a combined $15.4 million gift, rallying the rest of the industry to get involved.
“We are proud of our members and their commitment to RESOLVE prior to our involvement,” Randy Kraft, President of BILD, says. “Our members have a long track record of philanthropy and in supporting the BILD – Calgary Region Foundation’s charitable initiatives on behalf of industry.
